Coach Eddie Hernandez

Eddie Hernandez, known by his childhood nickname “Bebé,” was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. At the age of 3, his parents moved to the United States, beginning a new chapter for their family. Eddie’s grandfather gave him the nickname “Bebé” when he was a little boy, and it has stayed with him throughout his life. Eddie began playing soccer at the age of 3 in East Los Angeles, the community where he grew up. Soccer quickly became his passion, and over the past 37 years, he has dedicated himself to the game both as a player and coach.

Playing Career

Eddie started his competitive soccer journey in the California League, one of the most prestigious organizations in Los Angeles. During his time there, he helped win an incredible 12 championships. He also had the opportunity to play multiple matches at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in front of crowds of over 60,000 fans, creating memories that would last a lifetime. In 1984, Eddie competed in the Summer Olympics, playing outside the Rose Bowl, where his team earned the gold medal. At just 15 years old, he was selected to the U23 team and the First Team at the amateur level, competing in tournaments throughout Northern and Southern California against semi-professional teams and winning several tournaments.

High School Achievements

Eddie played high school soccer at Sierra Vista High School in Baldwin Park during the early 1990s for three years. During that time, he earned major success and recognition, including:

  • 3 League Championships
  • 1 Undefeated League Season
  • 2-Time All-League First Team
  • 2-Time CIF First Team

His talent also attracted attention from Division 1 universities, and he later graduated from North Park High School in 1993. Family, Growth, and Returning to Soccer With a promising future in soccer, Eddie made decisions in life that changed his path, and he became a father. In 2000, he decided to return to his dreams and enrolled in college to pursue his career goals. However, with a 5-year-old son,

Eddie’s greatest responsibility was always providing for his family.From 2000 to 2006, Eddie remained active in the game by playing and coaching his son’s team while also helping his former high school program at Sierra Vista High School. In 2007, Eddie and his family moved to the High Desert, settling in Victorville, California.

Coaching Career

Coach Hernandez returned to coaching in 2009, working with Real Madrid in Victorville and coaching in local recreation leagues such as HDYSL and VVYSL. In 2012, Eddie was hired as the Head Coach of Adelanto High School Boys Varsity. That same year, he became part of the So Cal Rush Girls Program, where he coached for three seasons. His coaching success led to an opportunity with Legends FC, one of the biggest club soccer organizations, where he coached for five years. Eddie also served as the Men’s Assistant Coach at Victor Valley College for three years, and during that time the team earned a Conference Championship in 2016, only the second conference championship in the program’s history. He later became the Head Coach of Granite Hills High School Girls Varsity, continuing his impact on student-athletes and the community.

Current Roles

Eddie Hernandez currently works at Sultana High School, where he has previously worked with the boys varsity program and now serves as the Assistant Coach for Sultana High School Girls Varsity. He is also proud to be part of the largest soccer club in the High Desert, Apple Valley Storm, where he continues developing young athletes and building strong teams.
