COACH PAUL CASAREZ
Paul Casarez has been a coach and trainer in the High Desert for over 30 years. Over the past decade, he has become one of the most respected and accomplished coaches the region has ever produced. Coach Paul understands the nuances and requirements necessary for local players to develop and compete at the highest levels available in California. Coach Paul is a product of the High Desert’s first great generation of soccer players. He was a member of the region’s original dynasty—the Apple Valley High School boys soccer teams of the late 1980s and early 1990s—which captured multiple league championships and set the standard for soccer excellence in the area.
When Granite Hills High School established its boys soccer program, Coach Paul was hired as the school’s first junior varsity coach. He later took over the varsity program in 2002 and promptly led Granite Hills to its first-ever league championship. Since then, he has won the Desert Sky League (DSL) twelve times and transformed Granite Hills into a Southern California power, consistently ranked among the top programs in its CIF division. During the 2022–2023 season, Coach Paul led Granite Hills to the Division 1 level for the first time in school history—the first sport at the school to ever reach that distinction. At the collegiate level,
Coach Paul served as the goalkeeper trainer and lead assistant coach at Victor Valley College, helping guide the program to its first conference championship in 31 years.Coach Paul has also played a major role in club soccer development throughout the High Desert. In 2009, he became President and Technical Director of Apple Valley Storm, the region’s largest soccer club. Under his leadership, the club tripled in size and became the most successful program in the High Desert, producing state, regional, and national champions. He guided the club’s first-ever boys team to Coast Soccer League’s highest division, the Premier League, and that same team won the Premier Championship in its inaugural season—an unprecedented achievement for a High Desert program. He later led the High Desert’s first girls team to the Premier League and advanced multiple additional boys and girls teams to Premier status. In 2024, Coach Paul expanded the club’s player pathway by launching an adult semi-professional team competing in theUnited Premier Soccer League (UPSL). In its inaugural season, the team went undefeated (13–0), captured both the Division One league and playoff championships, and earned promotion to the Premier Division. Apple Valley Storm now competes in the UPSL Premier SoCal North Division, representing the fourth tier of the U.S. soccer pyramid.
Across his career, Coach Paul has earned more than 100 tournament medals and championships at many of the nation’s most prestigious events.
